The highest-ROI channel you are not running

Pest Control SMS & Text Message Marketing

Texts get opened. Almost immediately, and almost always. For a business that lives on speed to lead, appointment adherence, and recurring renewals, that makes SMS the most underused tool in pest control.

Why texting

Why SMS Outperforms Every Other Follow-Up Channel Here

Email gets ignored. Phone calls get sent to voicemail. Texts get read, usually within minutes. That difference is not marginal, and in a business where the first company to respond usually wins the job, it is decisive.

Pest control has four moments where texting changes the outcome:

The lead comes in. A form fill at 8:40pm gets an automated text at 8:41pm confirming you received it and asking one qualifying question. The customer, who is still on their phone, replies. You just started a conversation while your competitor's auto-responder promises a callback within one business day.

The appointment is scheduled. Reminder texts materially reduce no-shows, and in a route-based business a no-show is not just lost revenue, it is a hole in a truck's day that cannot be refilled.

The plan comes up for renewal. A text asking a customer to confirm their next quarterly service costs almost nothing and prevents silent churn, which is where most recurring revenue is actually lost.

The customer lapsed. Your list of former customers is the cheapest prospect list you will ever have. They already trusted you once. A win-back text campaign against that list routinely outperforms cold acquisition by a wide margin.

What we build

The SMS Programs We Run

1

60-second speed to lead

Every form fill, ad lead, and missed call triggers an automated text within a minute, day or night. This one automation is frequently the highest-ROI thing we install in an entire engagement.

2

Missed-call text-back

The phone rings while your CSR is on another line and the caller hangs up. An automatic text goes out immediately. Recovered calls that would have gone straight to a competitor.

3

Appointment reminders and tech-en-route

Confirmation at booking, a reminder the day before, and an on-the-way text the morning of. Fewer no-shows, fewer angry calls asking where the technician is.

4

Renewal and upsell sequences

Quarterly confirmations, seasonal add-on offers like mosquito in spring, and one-time-to-recurring conversion campaigns aimed at customers who bought a single treatment.

5

Win-back campaigns

Segmented by why they lapsed and how long ago, with an offer that makes returning easy. Cheap, fast, and consistently one of the highest-return campaigns available.

6

Review requests by text

Sent after service completion, when satisfaction is highest. Text-based review requests substantially outperform email ones, and review velocity feeds your map rankings.

Do this right

Compliance Is Not Optional and Not Complicated

TCPA violations carry statutory damages per message, and class actions against service businesses are a real and active industry. Every program we build uses documented express written consent, clear opt-out handling on every message, quiet-hours enforcement, and proper 10DLC carrier registration so your messages actually get delivered instead of silently filtered.

The rules

How to Run Pest Control SMS Without Getting Sued

This is the part most agencies skip, and it is the part that can cost you far more than the campaign ever earns.

  • Get real consent. Express written consent means the customer affirmatively agreed to receive texts, with clear disclosure, and you have a record of when and how. A checkbox that is pre-ticked is not consent. A phone number collected for scheduling is not automatically consent to marketing.
  • Separate transactional from marketing. An appointment reminder for a service the customer booked is a different legal category than a promotional offer. Structure your consent and your flows accordingly, and do not blur them.
  • Honor opt-outs instantly and permanently. STOP means stop, across every campaign, immediately. Your platform should enforce this automatically, and you should verify that it does.
  • Respect quiet hours. Do not send marketing messages outside permitted hours in the recipient's time zone. Some states are stricter than federal rules, and a national footprint means the strictest rule governs.
  • Register for 10DLC. Carriers require brand and campaign registration for application-to-person messaging. Unregistered traffic gets filtered or blocked, which means you can be sending messages nobody receives and never know it.
  • Keep records. Consent logs, opt-out logs, and message history. If you are ever challenged, documentation is the entire defense.

We handle all of this as part of the build. It is not exciting, and it is the difference between a channel that prints money and a lawsuit.

Common questions

SMS Marketing, Answered

Is SMS marketing legal for pest control companies?
Yes, with proper consent and compliance. The TCPA governs it, carriers require 10DLC registration, and some states add their own rules. The requirements are specific but entirely manageable, and we build every program to meet them. This is general information about how we operate, not legal advice; if you want certainty for your specific situation, have your attorney review the program.
What is 10DLC and do I need it?
10DLC is the framework carriers use to register business text messaging on standard 10-digit numbers. If you send automated texts from a business number, you need to register your brand and campaigns. Without it, carriers filter or block your traffic, and you will not necessarily be told.
How fast should I respond to a new lead?
Minutes, not hours. Response speed is one of the strongest predictors of whether a lead converts, and the drop-off is steep. Automating the first touch means you win that race even at 10pm on a Sunday.
Will customers find it annoying?
Transactional messages, reminders, and on-the-way notices are welcomed because they are useful. Promotional volume is where you can go wrong. We keep marketing frequency low, segment tightly, and make every message either useful or genuinely valuable.
Can texting integrate with my field software?
Yes. Two-way texting can flow into FieldRoutes, PestRoutes, GorillaDesk, Briostack, or ServiceTitan so conversations are logged against the customer record and your CSRs are not managing a separate inbox nobody watches.
